America's Boating Course
We will be offering three spring courses entitled America's Boating Course (ABC Course). The courses, which consist of five weekly sessions, meet on Monday nights, beginning at 7pm (except the first night, which starts at 6:30pm for administrative details). Each class lasts 2 hours.
Spring Courses begin on:
March 1
April 12
June 7
Courses cover:
Safe boat handling
Good seamanship
Rules of the road
Aids to Navigation
Piloting
Local water familiarization
And more
Courses are taught at The Anchorage, 404 Green Acres Road, in Fort Walton Beach, by Captain John Johnston, who is a local licensed and experienced boat captain. Courses are open to the public, and boat ownership is not required.
The ABC Course is a product of the United States Power Squadrons, which is a national private non-profit, non-governmental organization. Since its inception, over 3 million persons have taken similar courses.
Completion of the course satisfies Florida license requirements for boaters born after September 30, 1980, and may entitle boat owners to receive a discount on their boat insurance.
A familiarization cruise through local waters may be offered to students who complete the course and pass the final exam.
Registration
Students may register by calling The Fort Walton Sail and Power Squadron at 850-315-0686.
If you would like information about this course, or any of our boating courses and seminars, please use our contact form (be sure to choose "Boating Course / Seminars" from the TOPIC dropdown menu).
Cost
The cost per attendee is $45, but for couples or family members sharing a text book, there will be a reduction on the second tuition.
The Fort Walton Sail and Power Squadron was chartered in 1955, and today has approximately 100 active local members.
